On June 22, the arrested founder of Toplum TV, Alesgar Mammadli, underwent a biopsy in a civilian West Hospital and returned to the detention center. His brother Nasimi Mammadli told Turan about this.

At the same time, relatives were informed about the biopsy after.

“I received a call from the clinic and was informed that my brother had undergone a biopsy and we have to make a payment. When I came Alesker was no longer there and I went to the pre-trial detention center,” said N. Mammadli.

He was given a meeting with his brother there.

“Alasker looked pale and exhausted. He came to a meeting with a with a high blood pressure and severe headaches,” noted his brother.

Alaskar told that on the morning of June 22, he was hastily taken under escort to the West Hospital.

“He was brought into the clinic from the back door and there were already about 30 security officers in civilian clothes and police uniforms. Security forces were also on the floor where the operating room was.

Alesker demanded the participation of doctors Azer Humbatov and Aydin Aliyev, whose names were indicated in the court decision on the examination. However, the security forces did not allow them to be invited. They said that Alesker had only 20-25 minutes for the procedure, so another doctor did the biopsy.

During the biopsy, 10-12 security officers stood over Alesker’s head.

They opened the handcuffs only after the doctor’s insistence, since Alesker had to take off his shirt,” N. Mammadli noted.

However, according to him, the blood tests recommended by A. Mammadli’s trusted doctors, along with a biopsy, were not done.

“The largest tumor measuring 23 mm on the right side of the throat was not biopsied. Cells for research were taken from a nodule on the left side measuring 12-14 mm,” said N. Mammadli.

According to him, the court decision on the medical examination was  implemented only partially.

“The results of the biopsy will be known in 10 days. But will it be possible to trust the results?” - N.Mammadli noted.

The prison service could not be reached for comment.

*On March 6-8, 9 employees of Tolum TV and its partner organization, the Institute for Democratic Initiatives, were detained. They were accused of smuggling foreign currency. Seven people were arrested and two were transferred to police custody.

The founder of Toplum TV, Alasgar Mammadli, was also accused of currency smuggling. During a search in his apartment, 7,300 euros were allegedly found.

On June 14, the Khatai court granted a request to conduct a medical examination on him in a private clinic.
