Ali Insanov accuses the authorities of Azerbaijan of political killings
Today Baku Court of Appeal (BCA) , chaired by the judge, Qadim Babayeva, started re-trial of Ali Insanov, former Health Minister. Re-investigation is conducted in connection with the fact that on March 14, 2013 the European Court of Human Rights adopted a resolution on the violation of human rights of Insanov for a fair trial. Pursuant to the decision of the ECHR, on November 15, 2013 the Plenum of the Supreme Court of Azerbaijan sent the case back for retrial in the BCA.
At today's meeting in the BCA protection applied for the permission for Insanov to sit not behind the bars and the permission to sit next to the lawyers, dismissal and acquittal , or change the measure of restraint and release from custody Insanov, and remanded the case to the district court.
The composition of judges rejected all petitions without grounding their decisions. In this regard, the lawyers made a diversion of the court, and the process was postponed for 14:30 on January 31. Then Insanov made political statements , saying that he was arrested by the orders of the President Ilham Aliyev.
"Your President Ilham Aliyev gave instructions to leave me in jail. Even if you want to set me free, and laws allow it, you do not do this," said Insanov.
He also said that President Ilham Aliyev "does not have enough literacy and level" to fights against him.
"We believed Heydar Aliyev. But I regret it. Ilham Aliyev is an element alien to the Azerbaijani people," said Insanov, and added that in future trials he will tell "how much money Ilham Aliyev lost in the casino."
He also accused the government of murdering academician Ziya Bunyadov, journalist Elmar Huseynov, poisoning one of the founders of the ruling party "Yeni Azerbaijan" Sirus Tebrizli.
Insanov however, expressed support for the arrested activists of the NIDA Movement and thanked them.
"The future of Azerbaijan and the revolution in Azerbaijan relate to this youth," said Insanov. He also stated about tortures of prisoners in jails. -03B06-
