Ankara and Ashgabat Discuss Construction of Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline
Baku / 09.11.18 / Turan: Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey play a key role in the revival of the historic Silk Road. Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlud Cavusoglu said this after a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Ashgabat.
"Issues related to the revival of the Silk Road, the construction of railways, the possibility of supplying Turkmen gas to European markets through the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline with subsequent access to the Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) were discussed with the Turkmen counterpart," Anadolu news agency quotes Chavusoglu.
The minister said that Turkey plans to take part in a regional transport conference to be held in Turkmenistan in late November.
He also said he had discussed with the Turkmen colleague the upcoming visit of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Turkmenistan and the possibility of holding a trilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Turkmenistan, Azerbaijan and Turkey.
Following the meeting, the Foreign Ministers signed a document on a program of cooperation between the MFAs of Turkey and Turkmenistan for 2019-2020. -02D-

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals reviewed the appeal of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who contested the extension of his detention. Mammadli's lawyer, Javad Javadov, stated that Mammadli argued the extension of his pre-trial detention was unfounded and linked the criminal prosecution to his human rights activities, Turan reported.

During the hearing, the investigator requested that the complaint be rejected, while Ibrahimov's lawyer, Aghil Laidj, pointed out the lack of grounds for keeping Ibrahimov in custody.

Arrested economist Fazil Gasimov has reportedly faced pressure after protesting the interruption of a phone call with his family on November 16. "The phone call was cut off, and Fazil demanded that the connection be restored. Then, Jalal Alizadeh, a detention center officer, along with his colleagues, forcibly removed Fazil from the phone room in the medical unit of the facility, tearing his jacket and dragging him across the floor before throwing him into a cell.
