Armenian Foreign Minister states that there is "regression" in negotiations with Azerbaijan
Baku/10.01.24/Turan: There is a certain regression in Azerbaijan's peace treaty proposals. Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan said this at a press conference in Yerevan on Wednesday.
"We see a certain regression in Azerbaijan's proposals on some points of the text, but also certain progress in a number of other directions," Mirzoyan said.
Armenia has worked through these points and sent its proposals. Regardless of the progress or regression in the next package of proposals, the peace treaty should be based on a number of principles.
"The countries should recognise mutual territorial integrity without any ambiguity. This is an issue where maximum clarity is needed. And the final peace treaty should provide this clarity," Mirzoyan said.
The delimitation process may take years, but the peace treaty should provide clear grounds for the process. Any uncertainty in these two issues, he said, could become a ground for further aggression and escalations, Mirzoyan said.
As a reminder, on 4 January Yerevan handed over to Azerbaijan its response proposals on the peace treaty. The package of proposals from Azerbaijan was received in late December, and the Armenian side responded to them within two weeks.
Official Baku has not yet commented on Yerevan's proposals. -0-
