Armenians Given Ten More Days to Withdraw Troops, Population from Kelbajar
Baku / 15.11.20 / Turan: Armenia asked for more time to fulfill obligations to withdraw troops and illegally deployed civilians from Kelbajar. Baku agreed to grant a grace period of 10 days - from November 15 to 25. Aide to the President of Azerbaijan Hikmet Hajiyev said this at today's briefing.
According to him, the government of Armenia, through the leadership of the Russian Federation, passed on a request to postpone the schedule for the withdrawal of troops and the illegally deployed Armenian population from Kelbajar. According to him, the Armenian leadership motivated this with the difficulties of implementing this process, in particular, the presence of only one road from Kelbajar to Armenia, its narrowness and low traffic capacity, and heavy congestion due to the movement of vehicles from Nagorno-Karabakh. This issue was discussed during yesterday's telephone conversation between the Presidents of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation.
Azerbaijan, proceeding from the principles of humanism, agreed to extend the withdrawal of the civilian population until 25 November.
The obligations of the parties emanating from the Joint Statement of the leaders of the three countries of November 9 remain in force and the signing of a special protocol is not provided.
At the same time, the schedule for the withdrawal of the Armenian troops and the illegally deployed civilian population from the Aghdam and Lachin regions remains the same - by November 20 and December 1, respectively.
At the same time, Hajiyev noted that, leaving the territory of Kelbajar, Armenians set fire to property, which also causes natural fires.
In turn, the head of the international cooperation department of the Azerbaijani Defense Ministry, Huseyn Mahmudov, said the Azerbaijani army is fully ready to enter Kelbajar. Engineering divisions have already cleared the area where the front line was.
According to him, Azerbaijani troops will enter Kelbajar from two directions – the Dashkesan and Goygol regions.
The Azerbaijani military will occupy positions both on the border with Armenia and in the direction of Nagorno-Karabakh, where Russian peacekeepers will be stationed between the sides.
Mahmudov stressed Armenia is complying with the obligations to withdraw troops and population and this is confirmed by aerial surveys. He showed video footage showing heavy traffic on the narrow road stretched for several kilometers. — 06D-
