Arrested Islamist Akhundzadeh Can Die in Custody
Institute of Human Rights and Freedoms (IHRF) issued a statement in which it expressed concern for the health of the jailed member of the Islamic Party of Azerbaijan (IPA) Rufulla Akhundzadeh.
As noted in the statement, Akhundzade suffered a heart attack on May 8 and needs quality care.
IHRF believes that in the medical unit of Ministry of Justice there are no conditions for the treatment of Akhundzadeh, who needs skilled care.
In this regard, the statement authors demand the immediate release of Akhundzadeh.
If Akhundzadeh's life is not saved, and he dies in prison, the responsibility for this will be borne by government.
Note that Akhundzadeh was arrested in January 2011 along with a group of activists of the Islamic Party, headed by its leader Movsum Samedov.
Akhundzadeh was sentenced to 11 years in prison.
It is noteworthy that one of the prisoners of this group deputy chairman of the Islamic Party Vagif Abdullayev died in the summer of 2012 from a serious illness in prison, despite calls by human rights activists to let him spend the last days with his family. -16D06 -
