Authorities Sanction Musavat and NCDF Rallies
Baku Executive Power has allowed the Musavat party’s rally scheduled for September 18 and the National Council of Democratic Forces (NCDF) rally scheduled for September 17.
The Musavat action in protest against the referendum of September 26 on amendments to the Constitution of Azerbaijan will be held at the stadium Mehsul from 15.00 to 17.00.
Turan was told by the head of Musavat, Arif Hajili.
Musavat is opposed to the amendments to the Constitution, which provide for an increase in the presidential term from 5 to 7 years, giving the head of state a right to appoint the first Vice-president and Vice-presidents, as well as to dissolve the Parliament. The amendments also require the abolition of the minimum age qualification for MPs and the head of state. Musavat sees this as ‘strengthening the dynastic regime’ and requires the cancellation of the referendum.
On September 11 NCDF attracted many thousands of protesters with the requirement to cancel the referendum. -16d-
