Azerbaijan and Armenia criticize Pashinyan's "Peace Treaty"
Baku/01.10.22/Turan: The peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan may not include the issue of Karabakh, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said on Friday. “We expect that perhaps the issue of Nagorno-Karabakh will not be included in the peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan. In Paris, during my speech, I noted that Armenia and Azerbaijan should mutually recognize each other's territorial integrity, and the main beneficiary in the negotiation process on Nagorno-Karabakh should be representatives elected by the people of Karabakh,” Pashinyan said. According to him, this issue was agreed with the leader of the Karabakh separatists Arayik Harutyunyan.
The opinions of Azerbaijani experts regarding Pashinyan's goal differ. The deputy of the Milli Mejlis Aydin Mirzazade said in an interview with Gazeta.Ru that within the framework of concluding a peace treaty, only the recognition of territorial integrity and borders between states, as well as the establishment of good neighborly relations, will be discussed.
According to Mirzazade, if Azerbaijan's territorial integrity is discussed at the talks, no concessions from Baku are envisaged. “The issue of the status of Karabakh is no longer in front of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan considers the people living in this territory as its citizens and ensures that their civil rights are observed. There will be no Karabakh in the peace treaty,” he said.
Political scientist Ilgar Velizade did not accept Pashinyan's idea. In a conversation with Turan, he said that the Armenian side sees the peace treaty as a kind of meaningless screen, behind which it reserves the opportunity to manipulate the "Karabakh issue", will continue to support and condone the separatists, insisting on ensuring the rights of the "people of Karabakh" - in fact, Karabakh Armenians.
"For Azerbaijan, such an approach is categorically unacceptable and is designed to preserve the current uncertainty. The peace agreement should close all open questions and leave no room for speculation. The Azerbaijani side will not sign a fictitious agreement," Velizade is sure.
But even the draft of the Peace Treaty announced by Pashinyan causes rejection among Armenian experts. Orientalist Sergei Melkonyan in his telegram channel presented the dangers of signing a peace treaty with Azerbaijan, calling this document a capitulation.
He warned the Armenians that if the Peace Treaty was concluded, the territories of Armenia would pass to Azerbaijan, and Karabakh would completely pass under the control of Azerbaijan. Baku will establish control over most of the strategic communications (including getting "enclaves"). Armenia will also give up a combat-ready army and give part of Zangezur as a corridor for Turkey and Azerbaijan. Reparations and other payments for the occupation of territories will be imposed on Armenia, Melkonyan warned the Armenians.—0—
