Azerbaijan and Russia discuss digitalization of consular services
The 11th consular consultations between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan and Russia were held in Baku the previous day.
The delegations of the parties at the talks were headed by Emil Safarov, head of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan, and Alexey Klimov, director of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation.
Representatives of the Ministry of Justice and the State Migration Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan also took part in the meeting.
During the consular consultations, the sides exchanged views on the current situation and prospects for the development of consular co-operation between the two countries, including the signing of bilateral documents in this area.
The potential for digitalization of consular services was also discussed.
In addition, the sides discussed the protection of rights and freedoms of citizens of the two countries and consular assistance to them, as well as emphasized the importance of joint measures to strengthen relations between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation in the justice, migration, education and other spheres.
A protocol of the meeting was signed at the end of the negotiations.

On June 28, the President of Azerbaijan signed an order on the dissolution of the Milli Majlis and the appointment of early parliamentary elections for September 1. The initiator of the early elections was the ruling Yeni Azerbaijan party. On June 21, at the suggestion of deputies from this party, the parliament adopted an appeal to the president with a request to dissolve parliament and call early elections, since the next elections coincided in November with the global climate conference COP29 in Baku.
