Azerbaijan-Armenia: State Department Says Continues To Remain 'Very Deeply Engaged'
The State Department said on Wednesday that it "continues to remain very deeply engaged" in finding peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, TURAN's Washington correspondent reports.
"This is something that of course this entire building and Secretary Blinken are paying close attention to and, ultimately, we believe that direct dialogue is key to resolving this issue and it’s why we continue to remain very deeply engaged on this," Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel told a daily press briefing in response to TURAN's questions.
Patel's comments came following Secretary of State Antony Blinken's latest calls to Azerbaijani and Armenian leaders, in which he urged the sides to schedule further talks as agreed earlier in Washington.
"Secretary’s continued engagement on this is a direct result of the United States commitment to promoting a peaceful future for the South Caucasus region," Patel said without providing further details about next steps.
