Azerbaijan passed Iran 33 convicted citizens
The Penitentiary Service of Azerbaijan passed Iran 33 prisoners kept in Azerbaijani prisons.
According to the press-service of the Iranian Embassy, soon Tehran will also return some prisoners to Azerbaijani.
Prisoner exchange occurs after a recent meeting of the head of the Prison Service of Azerbaijan, Madat Guliyev, and the Iranian Ambassador, Mohsen Pakayin.
There are 2000 Iranians in Azerbaijan in custody. The number of Azerbaijani prisoners in Iranian prisons is not reported.
According to independent experts, the majority of prisoners on both sides are convicted of drug smuggling.-06D—
