Azerbaijan ranked 70th in international passport index
Baku/10.01.24/Turan: On 10 January, "Henley & Partners" company released the World Passport Index based on the International Air Transport Association (IATA) data.
For the first time, six countries ranked first at once with a record number of visa-free travellers: France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Singapore and Spain. Passport holders of these countries can visit without visa 194 countries out of 227.
South Korea, Finland and Sweden ranked second (193 visa-free destinations), while Austria, Denmark, Ireland and the Netherlands shared third place (192).
The UK moved to the fourth position (191) and the US is in seventh place (187).
Over the past year Azerbaijan concluded visa-free travel agreements with Kenya, UAE and Saudi Arabia and moved up to 70th place. Azerbaijan's passport provides visa-free access to 72 countries.
Armenia ranked 74th this year, while Turkey ranked 52nd.

Journalist Imran Aliyev, held in the 1st Kurdakhany Detention Center near Baku, ended his hunger strike yesterday, which he had begun on November 18. The head of the website Məclis.info, Aliyev was protesting to demand his release, asserting that there was no criminal offense in his actions.

Germany is trying to prevent the escalation of the military conflict in Europe and is making efforts to do so. Speaking on November 22 at a press conference in Baku, German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock responded to a question about whether Berlin would provide "Taurus" missiles to Kyiv after Russia's use of ballistic missiles against Ukraine. "Therefore, this question cannot be answered with a simple 'yes'," she said.
