Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov spoke at the meeting on the UN Security Council

Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov spoke at a meeting of the UN Security Council, devoted to the United Nations interaction with the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

Noting that the OIC brings together 57 Muslim countries, Mammadyarov stressed the need for closer cooperation and coordination between the two organizations.

"A comprehensive resolution on the Arab- Israeli conflict remains one of the most pressing issues on the agenda of the UN and the OIC. Azerbaijan welcomes the restoration of direct talks between Israel and the Palestinians," said the Minister.

He recalled that in June this year, Azerbaijan organized a conference of foreign ministers of the OIC to establish a network of Islamic financial security in defense of Palestine.

On the issue of Syria, Mammadyarov said that Azerbaijan hopes that the recently demonstrated unanimous position of the UN Security Council will contribute to a political solution of the conflict in this Arab country.

Speaking about Azerbaijan's role in international relations, Mammadyarov said Azerbaijan is a reliable partner and continues to play an important role in strengthening energy security by providing the global energy market.

Following the meeting, a statement was made by the chairman of the UN Security Council.

In particular, the statement noted the importance of cooperation between the United Nations and regional and sub-regional organizations, including the OIC in the maintenance of international peace and security. -06d-
