Azerbaijani Foreign Minister receives the U.S. Ambassador
Today, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister, Elmar Mammadyarov, received the new U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan, Richard Morningstar. During the meeting, in addition to bilateral issues, they also discussed the Karabakh theme.
Mammadyarov informed about the current state of negotiations to resolve the conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He stressed that the protraction of the conflict strikes peace and stability in the region.
Conflict can be resolved within the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, Mammadyarov said. He noted the need for the withdrawal of Armenian armed forces from the occupied Azerbaijani territories and the return of displaced persons to their homes.
Mammadyarov also said that in a telephone conversation with U.S. Assistant Secretary of State William Burns, expressed misunderstanding by Azerbaijan the State Department's position on the extradition and release the officer Ramil Safarov.
He stressed that they should approach the case of Safarov in the context of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan and ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijani people.-06D--
