Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry responds to the concern of Ambassador of Ukraine
Azerbaijan, based on international law and the UN Charter to respect the territorial integrity, sovereignty and internationally recognized borders of Ukraine. Attempts to change the internationally recognized borders are not acceptable, Azertac agency was told by the head of the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Hikmet Hajiyev, commenting on the statements of the Ukrainian Ambassador to Baku, Alexander Mishchenko, regarding Azerbaijan's position on the conflict in his country.
The other day, during the presentation of the book "From the Maidan to the Maidan," Mishchenko acknowledged that in Baku he was persistently asked not to criticize Russia. Mishchenko believes that these recommendations are the same as the request from the Azerbaijani ambassador not to talk about the occupation of Azerbaijani territories. He also expressed surprise that the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE supported the Russian delegation in the voting to suspend its powers in connection with the aggression against Ukraine. The Ambassador also condemned Baku for not providing even a symbolic assistance to Ukraine, despite other post-Soviet countries help it.
In turn, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry’s spokesman commenting on the vote of the Azerbaijani delegation to PACE in favor of Russia, said that Baku, as chairman of the Committee of Ministers of the Council of Europe, spoke against double standards in the Council of Europe and a selective approach to the member states.
At the same time, Azerbaijan has repeatedly raised the issue of sanctions against Armenia, repeatedly violating the principles of international law.
The Council of Europe in such matters should demonstrate a unified approach based on the principle of the rule of international law, said Hajiyev.-16d-
