Azerbaijani Opposition-minded Expatriates Hold Rally in Front of Angela Merkel�s Residence
Baku / 23.08.18 / Turan: Yesterday the organization of political emigrants Choose Democratic Azerbaijan (CDA) held an action in Berlin in front of the residence of the Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel in connection with her forthcoming visit to Baku as part of her tour of the South Caucasus. The action was broadcast online on the CDA Facebook page.
The opposition-minded expatriates raised posters with the slogans "Freedom to Political Prisoners!", "No Caviar Diplomacy!" and "Do Not Sacrifice Human Rights to Oil Interests!" as well as portraits of political prisoners.
The participants in the action called on Merkel to raise issues of ensuring human rights and freedom of the media, fighting corruption and releasing political prisoners during her visit to Azerbaijan.
In addition, the protesters called on Merkel to pay special attention to the settlement of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict.
At the end of the action, an appeal to Merkel was read.
Merkel will pay a visit to Azerbaijan on August 25.

On May 1, the former head of the International Bank of Azerbaijan (IBA), Jahangir Hajiyev, announced a hunger strike in prison N13 in protest against the absence of effective medical care and conditions of detention, his lawyer Hajiyev Fahraddin Mehdiyev, who met with his client on May 2, said Turan. According to him, Hajiyev suffers from thyroid disease, cardiac arrhythmia and hypertension.
