Azerbaijani Passport Climbs to 69th in Global Mobility Index
The Azerbaijani passport has achieved a notable improvement, rising to 69th place in the Henley & Partners Passport Index for the first half of 2024. This index, which assesses global mobility by counting visa-free destinations available to passport holders, highlights Azerbaijan's progress in international travel freedom.
The Henley & Partners index evaluates the passports of 199 countries, with data provided by the International Air Transport Association (IATA). The Azerbaijani passport's advancement marks a significant leap from its position of 76th in January, reflecting a seven-place climb over the past six months.
Currently, Azerbaijani passport holders can visit 71 countries without needing a visa, enhancing the travel flexibility for its citizens. This improvement aligns with broader regional trends in the South Caucasus. For comparison, Georgia's passport holds 44th place in the index, offering visa-free access to 122 destinations. In contrast, Armenia is ranked 72nd, with its passport enabling visa-free travel to 68 countries.
At the top of the index, Singapore continues to lead, with its passport granting access to 195 countries without the need for a visa. Conversely, the Afghan passport languishes at the bottom of the ranking, with holders able to visit only 26 destinations visa-free.
This shift in rankings underscores the evolving landscape of global mobility, with various countries experiencing changes in their international access as they navigate diplomatic and policy adjustments.
