Baku and Yerevan should support EU initiative - Stefan Schennach
Strasbourg/12.10.22/Turan: PACE is very concerned about the situation on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan, violations of the ceasefire, Stefan Schennach, PACE rapporteur on freedom of the press, said in an interview with Azerbaijani journalists.
It is necessary to put an end to hatred towards each other, otherwise it will be impossible to conclude a peace agreement, he said.
“Now Azerbaijan attacked the territory of Armenia. It is necessary that the Azerbaijani forces be withdrawn from there. In turn, the Armenian side must present all the maps of the minefields, which it has not done to the end, and which led to the death of a large number of people,” the speaker said. He also called for the return of all Armenian prisoners.
Commenting on the results of the meeting in Prague, he called on Baku and Yerevan "to be open to each other." Given that Russia is currently unable to be a constructive mediator, Armenia and Azerbaijan should support the EU initiative to find a peaceful solution to the conflict.
“Everything that was recorded on paper is very good, we need to do it all,” Schennach said. --16B--
