Bayramov and Lavrov discussed situation in region after anti-terrorist operation in Karabakh.
Baku/23.09.23/Turan: Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Ceyhun Bayramov met with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on September 22 as part of his participation in the high-level week of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly.
According to the press service of the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry, the sides discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries, as well as the latest situation in the region.
Bayramov expressed condolences to the Russian Federation and the families of the victims due to the death of members of the Russian peacekeeping contingent during the anti-terrorist activities carried out in the Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. He noted that an investigation is being conducted on this issue.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Minister informed the opposite side in detail about the anti-terrorist measures carried out in the Karabakh region against illegal Armenian armed formations, which continued their presence contrary to the international law and the trilateral statement of November 10, 2020 signed between the leaders of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia.
At present, in coordination with the Russian peacekeeping contingent temporarily stationed in the region, practical steps are being taken towards the withdrawal of weapons and ammunition from the Armenian armed forces.
It was also emphasized that in parallel with this process, a dialogue is progressing towards the reintegration of the Armenian residents of the Karabakh region, in particular, in accord with the results of the meeting held recently in the city of Yevlakh between the central authorities of Azerbaijan and representatives of local Armenian residents, work is being carried out to meet the needs of civilians living in the region.
Also, the meeting participants exchanged views on other issues in the agenda of cooperation between the two countries. -06B-
