Behbud Khan Javanshir Memorial Installed in Istanbul
Baku / 19.12.19 / Turan: An opening ceremony of the memorial plaque to the Minister of the Interior of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan (1918-20) Behbud Khan Javanshir took place in Istanbul on December 18.
He was one of the prominent politicians of the Democratic Republic of Azerbaijan. Being the Minister of Internal Affairs and the deputy of the parliament, Javanshir played an important role in creating the republican statehood of Azerbaijan.
Note that Javanshir was the great-grandson of the founder of the Karabakh Khanate Panahali Khan.
Behbud Khan Javanshir became a victim of Armenian terrorism. On July 18, 1921, he was shot dead in front of Istanbul's Pera Palace by member of the Dashnaktsutyun terrorist organization Misak Torlakyan.
A memorial plaque was erected in the historical district of the city - Beyoglu with the organizational support of the Consulate General of Azerbaijan in Istanbul, with the assistance of the Istanbul City Hall and the local municipality.
In Azerbaijan itself, the memory of Behbud Khan Javanshir is not perpetuated. —06B--
