Bill on "foreign agents" withdrawn from Parliament of Georgia
Baku/09.03.23/Turan: On March 9, the Parliamentary faction of the ruling "Dream Party" in Georgia announced the withdrawal of the draft Law on "Foreign Agents".
Note that the bill adopted by the Parliament in the first reading caused mass protests and riots in Tbilisi. The documents were also criticized by Western institutions. "We have decided to unconditionally withdraw the bill we supported earlier without any reservations," the ruling Party and the People's Power movement, which initiated the adoption of the law, said in a joint statement.
The authors of the statement write that the decision was adopted to preserve peace in the country. The bill caused controversy in society, and its adoption would be interpreted as a departure from the European course. -02D-
