Brother of Political Refugee Arrested for 2 Months
With regard of Elgiz Sadygly, brother of the political refugee Tural Sadigli the February 14 decision of the Sabunchi district court remanded arrest for a period of 2 months.
The young man is charged under Article 234.1 (illegal purchase or possession of drugs without intent to sell it in quantities exceeding those necessary for personal consumption) of the Criminal Code, which provides for penalties of up to three years in prison.
Sadygly pleads not guilty, the lawyer Yavar Hussein told Turan.
According to the police at the detention of E. Sadygly the police found 5 grams of marijuana on him and another 1.5 kg was found in the trunk of his car.
The lawyer considers the accusation unfounded. According to him, the primary evidence submitted to the court is based only on the testimony of the police officers.
The defense will request fingerprint examination to identify fingerprints of E. Sadygly on the packages of drugs.
The man's father Alovasat Sadygly considers the criminal case against his son fabricated and politically motivated.
Living in political emigration Tural Sadygly is convinced that E. Sadygly is persecuted because of his political activities and participation in the protest in Berlin on January 21 during the visit of President Ilham Aliyev.
Recall that E. Sadygly was arrested along with his father A. Sadygly on February 13. However A. Sadygly was released a day later.
E. Sadygly is not engaged in political activities. The Interior Ministry denies political motives in E. Sadygly's case. -06B--
