Chief of Saudi Arabia's General Staff discusses issues of expanding military cooperation in Baku
Azerbaijani Defence Minister Zakir Hasanov met with a Saudi military delegation headed by Chief of General Staff Fayyad bin Hamed Al-Ruwaili in Baku on 29 January.
The Defence Ministry's press service reports that the meeting also discussed prospects of bilateral cooperation in military, military-technical and military-educational spheres, and exchanged views on regional security.
On the same day, members of the Saudi delegation had a separate meeting with Chief of General Staff of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces Kerim Veliyev.
The meeting continued exchange of views on the expansion of bilateral military co-operation.

On January 30, the Baku Appeals Court rejected the appeal of the journalist Aytaj Tapdyg, who was arrested in connection with the Meydan TV case, her lawyer, Javad Javadov told Turan.

The municipal elections held on January 29 were neither free nor fair and did not reflect the will of the people, the conclusion of the Central Election Headquarters of the "Musavat" Party. The document notes that the elections were postponed for more than a month without any explanations. There was no democratic atmosphere during the elections, which took place under conditions of repression, without a democratic legislative framework.

On Thursday, the trial of former deputy and entrepreneur Huseyn Abdullayev continued at the Baku Serious Crimes Court, chaired by Azer Tagiev. On January 30, it was announced that the judicial investigation had been updated due to Abdullayev's appeals to President Ilham Aliyev and the country's Prosecutor General. However, the appeals did not help, and the prosecutor reiterated the indictment, once again requesting a 10-year prison sentence for Abdullayev.

The Council today adopted a decision extending the mandate of the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA) for a further two years, until 19 February 2027, with a budget allocation of over €44 million for the period from 20 February 2025 until 19 February 2027.
