Clouds Continue to Thicken over Erdogan
Ankara/10.01.14/Turan : Opinion polls conducted on the last days by social services in Turkey showed that the level of public confidence in the ruling party AKP ( Justice and Development ) has fallen to a record low of 42 % (from previous 65%).
At the same time , the credibility of the leading opposition party - the Republican People's Party rose to 29% from the previous 15%.
Also increased the authority of the second large opposition party - National Movement - 19% .
As consequences of the corruption scandal of December 17, dozens of people close to Erdogan were arrested in Turkey, including government officials implicated in corruption. Among them were children of three government ministers .
Against this backdrop, intensified pressure from the military and other law enforcement agencies on Erdogan, who under a false pretext jailed about 300 military officers, including dozens of generals.
The Supreme Council of Prosecutors and Judges in Turkey has launched an investigation against the judges of the Serious Crimes Judgment Unit of Istanbul, who conducted the Ergenekon case, in the framework of which the military were condemned.
As the site Haber.com said, the internal investigation was initiated at the request of the lawyer of the former Chief of Staff Ilker Basbug , who was convicted for life in the Ergenekon case.
The lawyer accused the judges of violating the Constitution and adopting illegal decisions.
Yesterday the famous prosecutor Zakaria Oz, who authorized the investigation of corruption on December 17, issued a statement accusing Prime Minister Erdogan of putting pressure on him. The prosecutor told the Turkish press that two colleagues came to him on behalf of Erdogan and demanded an end to the investigation and that he make a written apology to Erdogan . Otherwise, they threatened serious problems. The prosecutor rejected the pressure and refused to dismiss the matter.
Meanwhile, the government and Erdogan himself will not comment on photos, on which his son Bilal communicates with terrorist circles representative named Al Qadi. According to the Turkish opposition, that person is prohibited from entering Turkey. Authorities did not respond to a request for information regarding where the meeting took place.
According to Turkish and Azerbaijani media, Bilal Erdogan is hiding in Azerbaijan in a five star hotel in Gabala (200 km from Baku).

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals reviewed the appeal of human rights defender Anar Mammadli, who contested the extension of his detention.
