Coalition "Sports for rights" demands the release of Rauf Mirkadyrov
International coalition “Sports for rights” defended the arrested journalists in Azerbaijan Rauf Mirkadyrov calling for his unconditional and immediate release, as well as other activists and the media.
In connection with the next extension of the arrest of Mirkadyrov, coalition "Sports rights" notes that Mirkadyrov is one of the eight journalists imprisoned in Azerbaijan. On 4 September the Nasimi District Court, chaired by Azer Pashayev extended the arrest of the journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov for another two months.
* Mirkadyrov was arrested in April 2014 on charges of treason immediately after being deported from Turkey. He categorically denies the accusation. The real reason for his arrest is Mirkadyrov’s participation in projects of the Institute of Peace and Democracy Leyla Yunus, who was also accused of treason.
It is noteworthy that the prosecution of Leyla and her husband Arif Yunus of treason had been separated from production and convicted for economic crimes. -16B06-
