Committee for Protection of Civil Society (CPCS) holds a round table on human rights in the country
Regular meeting of the Committee for Protection of Civil Society (CPCS) was held today. According to the CPCS coordinator, co-chairman of the Helsinki Citizens' Assembly Arzu Abdullayeva, the meeting discussed the issue of compliance to the European Convention for Human Rights and Freedoms and the European Social Charter.
It was decided to hold a round table with participation of representatives of a wide spectrum of political forces and the public on this topic during the month. The meeting also focused on the questions of political prisoners. The necessity of their meeting with relatives was noted.
It was also decided to clarify the lists of political prisoners, to supplement them with information about the place of detention, investigators, prosecutors and judges, who conducted their affairs. Further organizational issues were discussed.
Aytekin Imranov waselected secretary for the execution of decisions adopted by the CPCS. Parvana Gurbanova became special representatives for convicted activists of the NIDA Movement.
Elshan Hasanov and Avaz Zeynalli were appointed co-coordinators of the political prisoners.
* The CPCS was established in 2009 with the participation of approximately 100 independent NGOs. Currently, the CPCS unites about 20 activists. -05В06--

Alisahib Kerimov, an activist of the Khazar district branch of the Popular Front Party of Azerbaijan (PFPA), was detained on January 10 at the Nizami metro station. By the decision of the Yasamal District Court, he was sentenced to 30 days of administrative arrest for "disobeying the police."
