Court arrests Parviz Hashimly for two months
On September 12 the Sabail District Court arrested Parviz Hashimly, employee of "Bizim Yol" newspaper and the head of the site «Moderator.az» to two months. Currently, he is kept in the pre-trial jail of the Ministry of National Security, according to the lawyer, Elchin Sadigov.
According to the lawyer, the court specified three months of arrest, but the court sanctioned the arrest for two months. Elchin Sadigov said that he met today with Parviz Hashimly who does not agree with the charges against him. He connects his arrest with professional and advocacy work. Hashimly also said violence acts were against him yesterday during arrest.
The lawyer said that he is preparing an appeal against the decision of Sabail court.
Parviz Hashimly is charged under two Articles of the Criminal Code: 206.3.2 (smuggling) and 228.2.1 (storage, carrying, possession of firearms.) -16D-

In Azerbaijan, the heads of several websites have been arrested on suspicion of extorting money from entrepreneurs, the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA) reported. Complaints were filed with the MIA's Main Department for Combating Organized Crime regarding the actions of the website owners: Seymur Mammadov of Aztvnews.az, Zaur Ahmedov of Qaynar-xett.az, Eldaniz Mejdanov of Postbaku.net, and Elvin Gurbanov of Aja.az. The investigation revealed that they were operating as an organized group, extorting money by threatening to publish defamatory information about the entrepreneurs.

The "Pressure on Civil Society and Independent Media in Azerbaijan" will be discussed at a meeting of the European Parliament's Subcommittee on Human Rights on December 5.
