Day of Germany Celebrated in Baku
On October 1 evening the German embassy organized a reception in honor of Germany. The event was attended by hundreds of guests - officials, diplomats, members of the public, businessmen and journalists.
The German Ambassador to Azerbaijan Heidrun Tempel, welcoming the guests, said the Day of German Unity celebrated since 1990 is a national holiday of the country.
On October 3, 1990 an agreement was signed on the unification of Germany and the German Democratic Republic’s entry into the Federal Republic of Germany.
Speaking about bilateral relations, Tempel recalled that Germany was among the first to recognize the independence of Azerbaijan. She expressed hope for further fruitful cooperation between the two countries in various fields.
Deputy Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev on behalf of the Government of Azerbaijan congratulated the people of Germany and expressed Baku’s willingness to cooperate with Berlin in all areas and, above all, in education and economy.
According to him, in recent years, 120 students from Azerbaijan have been trained at universities in Germany.
The event continued with performances of jazz musicians from Germany and fireworks. -16D-
