Death toll in Turkey reaches 3,000
Baku/07.02.23/Turan: The death toll from the devastating earthquake in southern Turkey has reached 2921, the head of the Turkish Emergency Department (AFAD) Yunus Cesar said on the morning of February 7. Another 15,834 people were injured, he said.
Earlier, Turkish Vice President Fuat Oktay said that a total of 7,840 people were pulled out of the rubble alive. Debris removal continues, the number of victims will increase.
Oktay added that 338,000 people have been accommodated in hostels, universities and shelters.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has declared seven days of national mourning in Turkey for the victims of the natural disaster.
According to seismologists, on February 6 in the south-east of Turkey, two earthquakes with a magnitude of more than seven occurred in a day (at 04:17 - 7.7, and at 13:24 - 7.6).
Turkish authorities urged the population not to return to their homes due to fear of aftershocks. -0-

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev expressed confidence that the visit of the President of Somalia to Baku "will open a new page in the close friendly relations" between the two countries. On February 12, the Baku Appeals Court rejected the appeal to transfer journalist Ramin Djebrailzade (Deko) to house arrest, according to his lawyer Nemat Kerimli. The journalist denies the charge of currency smuggling. Representatives of the investigating authorities were unavailable for comment.

The "Union for the Freedom of Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan" has published an updated list of political prisoners, which includes 357 names. Compared to the previous list from December 12 last year, the number of political prisoners has increased by 26 individuals. Among them are journalists Farid Ismayilov, Shamshad Agha, Shahnaz Beylergizi, and 13 arrested during the unrest in Imishli, among others.
