DHS Prevented a Terrorist Attack against a Shiite Mosque in Baku
The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) of Azerbaijan arrested the local citizens Nariman Mirzoyev and Mirzakhmed Rustamov suspected of preparing a terrorist act to assassinate people and illegal acquisition of large quantities of weapons and explosives, said the Ministry of National Security.
A criminal case was filed under Articles 28,214.2.1, 28,214.2.3 (terrorism, violation of public safety with the use of weapons for mass destruction of people) and 228.2.1 (illegal acquisition, storage and transportation of arms and ammunition by a group of people).
The report by DHS notes that in October 2013 on the user page Anakin Skywalker in the social network Facebook there was a statement that is in Gusar Amir Farman Chetin received from Sheikh Mirzakhmed al Gusari a fatwa for jihad against the Shiites in Azerbaijan.
The profile Anakin Skywalker also provided photos of Farman Chetin with Sheik Mirzakhmed al Gusari.
Under the photo there was posted a fatwa on jihad against the Shiites, insults and threats against them, and calls for the murder of the Akhund in the Meshedi Dadash Mosque in Baku, Shahin Hasanov.
As a result of the anti-terrorist actions it was revealed that Farman Chetin is Nariman Mirzoyev and Sheikh Mirzakhmed al Gusari is Mirzakhmed Rustamov.
It was found that Mirzoyev, Rustamov and others in April 2012 agreed to organize a terrorist act with the aim of mass casualties in the Shiite mosque Meshedi Dadash.
Mirzoyev and Rustamov arranged a weapons cache in the woods in Gusar. Then they appeared in the social network with calls to jihad and murder of the Akhund.
Currently underway are operational investigative actions to capture the remaining members of the group and to clarify all details of the case, the DHS statement says.
Judging by the nature of action, Mirzoyev and Rustamov belong to the radical movement of Salafis (Wahhabis). Typically, these groups have ties to the North Caucasus terrorists and those in the Arab world.
As for Shahin Hasanov, he is one of the youngest and most respected spiritual leaders of the Shiites.-16D-
