Eastern Partnership Summit will address key issues
Baku/15.12.21/Turan: The 6th Eastern Partnership Summit will open in Brussels on Wednesday at 19:00 Baku time. A press conference will be held following its results, the EU said in a statement.
The leaders of the member countries of this association (Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova) will take part in its work.
The meeting is chaired by the head of the European Council Charles Michel and the head of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen.
“The summit will also reaffirm its commitment to strengthening stability and cooperation, carrying out necessary reforms, defining future priorities and mobilizing resources to address the challenges ahead,” it was reported. Common values and fundamental principles remain the cornerstone of the Eastern Partnership policy and these are:
* strengthening democracy and the rule of law
* protecting human rights and fundamental freedoms, including the rights of persons belonging to minorities;
* promoting the development of inclusive societies;
* ensuring full compliance with the principles and norms of international law.
* * The Eastern Partnership is a project established by the European Union in 2008. It aims to strengthen the political association and economic integration of the participating partner countries with the EU.
Initially, there were 6 countries in the project, but in the summer of 2021 Belarus suspended its participation, after harsh criticism from Europe for massive violations of human rights in Belarus. -02D-
