Elshan Hasanov, a human rights activist, is denied registration
Baku/17.01.20/Turan: The district election commission (DEC) of the 27th Sabunchu Second Electoral District refused to register the head of the Center for Political Prisoners of Azerbaijan Elshan Hasanov as a candidate for deputy.
According to Turan Hasanov, the DEC told him that he had 449 signatures in the signature sheets, instead of the required 450.
“I submitted 450 valid signatures. I have kept copies,” Hasanov said. The activist considers the DEC decision unreasonable and biased.
“From the very beginning, obstacles were created for me. Either they delayed the opening of an account at the bank, and then they did not give subscription lists. Despite the artificial limitation, I collected all the signatures,” Hasanov said. He intends to file a complaint with the CEC and further to the court.
Hasanov is a former “prisoner of conscience”. In October 2014, he, together with other political prisoners, created the Center for Monitoring Political Prisoners. –06D-
