Emin Ibrahimov has been on hunger strike in pre-trial detention center-3 for the 13th day
Former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov has been on hunger strike in the Shuvelan pre-trial detention center 3 for the 13th day, protesting against his illegal arrest. On August 5, lawyer Bahruz Bayramov visited him. He told Turan that his loved ones asked him to stop the hunger strike. "However, he said that he would continue the action until the end," the lawyer said. According to him, Ibrahimov lost 7 kg and looked sluggish.
Emin Ibrahimov was detained on July 22. He was charged under Articles 126.2.4 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health from hooligan motives) and 221 (hooliganism) The Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. According to these articles, he faces up to 11 years in prison.
On July 24, the court arrested him for 4 months. In protest, Ibrahimov went on a hunger strike. He is convinced that the real reason for the arrest is criticism of the authorities.
Emin Ibrahimov served in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan in the past. In 2012-2016, he was the second secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States, in 2016-2020 - Charge d'affaires of Azerbaijan in Uruguay. He later resigned from the diplomatic service, expressing disagreement with the government's policy.
After that, he criticized the authorities on social media.
