Emin Ibrahimov has stopped his hunger strike
On August 12, former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov stopped his hunger strike, which he held for 20 days in the Shuvelan pre-trial detention center, he informed his relatives about this in a telephone conversation.
In turn, the director of the Institute of Political Management, Azer Gasimli, told the Turan news agency that Ibrahimov stopped the hunger strike after urgent requests from relatives, relatives, friends and like-minded people.
"We had previously asked Emin to stop his hunger strike, but he stubbornly continued the action. This time we convinced him that he is a man of struggle, and in order to continue his work he needs to be healthy," Gasimli said.
Emin Ibrahimov was detained on July 22. He was charged under the Articles 126.2.4 (intentional infliction of serious harm to health from hooligan motives) and 221 (hooliganism) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan. According to these Articles, he faces up to 11 years in prison.
On July 24, the court arrested him for 4 months. In protest, Ibrahimov went on a hunger strike. He is convinced that the real reason for the arrest is criticism of the authorities.
Emin Ibrahimov served in the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry in the past. In 2012-2016, he was the second secretary of the Azerbaijani Embassy in the United States, in 2016-2020 he served as Charge d'affaires of Azerbaijan in Uruguay. He later resigned from the diplomatic service, expressing disagreement with the government's policy. After that, he criticized the authorities on social media.
