EU Special Representative discussed situation with Karabakh with Zakir Hasanov
Baku / 30.07.18 / Turan: Situation in the Karabakh conflict zone was discussed on July 30 at the meeting of Azerbaijani Defense Minister Zakir Hasanov with Toivo Claar, the European Union Special Representative for the South Caucasus. Hasanov stressed, that the destructive position of Armenia is the main obstacle in achieving progress in resolving the conflict. Claar, in turn, noted the importance of an early and peaceful resolution of the conflict to ensure stability in the South Caucasus region. The guest expressed hope that "the policy pursued by the new Prime Minister of Armenia, Nikol Pashinyan, is aimed at a peaceful settlement of the conflict."
However, Hasanov objected to this by saying that the statements of the Armenian leadership containing military rhetoric and the sending by the Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of their sons to military service in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan indicate that this authority is not interested in a peaceful settlement.
To resolve the conflict as soon as possible, Armenia must immediately and unconditionally withdraw its armed forces from the Azerbaijani territories. -06D--
