European Court Orders Azerbaijani Government to Pay 72,000 Euros to Six Applicants
The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) issued a decision on the statements of Azerbaijani opposition members Ilham Huseyn, Tazakhan Miralamli, Tofig Dadashov, Bahruz Hasanov, Turkel Alisoy and Agaverdi Rushanov, whose legal representative was a lawyer Asabali Mustafayev.
According to Mustafayev, the complaints were filed on arbitrary arrest, violation of the freedom of assembly and fair trial.
The court found violations of the rights of the applicants and ordered to pay them compensation of 12,000 Euro each, and another 6,000 Euros for legal costs.
Thus, the monetary sanctions imposed on the government of Azerbaijan amounted to 78,000 Euros.
However, the ECHR reduced the amount to pay for legal services and appointed a fine of 500 Euros for each case. -06D--
