Fighting in Kursk region of Russian Federation: Ukrainians are advancing for eighth day
The invasion of Ukrainian troops in Russia's Kursk region has continued for the eighth day; according to the latest reports, two more Ukrainian airborne assault brigades - the 82nd and 95th - have entered the fray, "Forbes" writes.
Together with these forces, the Ukrainian corps in the Kursk direction includes six brigades plus two separate battalions and auxiliary units of drones, artillery, reconnaissance and special forces. In total, it is about 15,000 military personnel, the publication reported.
Some of the brigades and battalions being sent to the Kursk region are being transferred from other parts of the front. According to Rob Lee, an analyst from the Foreign Policy Research Institute, this indicates Ukraine's large-scale goals, including a long-term presence in the Kursk region.
The Russians are fighting back with nine motorized rifle, airborne assault regiments and brigades, potentially outnumbering the Ukrainian forces. At the same time, Russian troops are not curtailing their offensive in eastern Ukraine, and are even strengthening their defense in this area.
According to the newspaper, casualties on both sides are growing as more and more forces enter the battle. The Ukrainians are still outnumbered, and it is likely that the Russian military command in Kursk direction will have to deploy a second echelon of reserves, as the troops of the first echelon will not be able to stop the offensive.
Recall that the operation of the Ukrainian armed forces in the Kursk region of Russia began on August 6, and on Wednesday, August 13, the commander-in-chief of the Ukrainian forces, Alexander Syrsky said that 74 settlements of the Kursk region and more than 1,000 square kilometers of territory were already under the control of Ukrainian forces.
