Five people killed in a shooting on the Azerbaijani-Iranian border

Five people were killed on Sunday morning when preventing penetration of the armed group from Iran to the territory of Azerbaijan. The incident occurred in the area guarded by the Border outpost in the village of Dashkend of Yardimli region.

According to the press service of the State Border Service (SBS), On 13 March at around 04:10 a signaling device  detected the movement of eight or ten people on the  side  of Iran.  The violators refused to obey the command to "stand", ignored a warning shot, and showed armed resistance. In this connection, the border guards opened fire: five people were injured and two others were arrested.

Despite the efforts the doctors could not save the lives of the wounded. It has been found that a group of violators were from Bangladesh and their two armed conductors. Their citizenship and number is not specified. During the inspection of the scene were revealed  cartridges to the  hunting rifles, one pistol "Browning".  Commander of Border Troops of Azerbaijan, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev arrived to the scene.

 The  SBS and the military prosecutor's office continue operational-search and investigative activities. Based on the information that the search continues, it is assumed that  some offenders managed to break through to the territory of Azerbaijan. Armed incidents used to take place  in the  past between the border guards and the violators who are usually drug traffickers. -06D--
