Former political prisoners outraged by speech by Ilham Aliyev at the PACE
The alliance "Azerbaijan without political prisoners" condemned the speech by Ilham Aliyev at the PACE session, believing it to be unfounded and biased.
The statement of the Alliance, which brings together former political prisoners of the country, said: "The brusque tone by Aliyev, his threats and disrespectful treatment of PACE deputies, his assertion that there are no political prisoners in Azerbaijan and members of PACE lie, is a bitter confirmation that the ruling regime in Azerbaijan has no goodwill and does not intend to release political prisoners and to respect democratic norms."
Azerbaijani authorities act in accordance with the performance by Aliyev: they continue to violate the rights and pursue their opponents, the statement said.
In this regard, members of the Alliance demand that the ruling regime stop this evil practice, and PACE take adequate steps to put pressure on official Baku to release political prisoners in the country. -16D-
