Forty-one Activists Arrested in Iranian Azerbaijan
In the town Serabit in Southern (Iranian) Azerbaijan, 41 activists of the national movement of Azerbaijanis were arrested on these days. This is stated in the message received by Turan from the Independence Party of South Azerbaijan.
Those arrested are mainly young people aged 20-35. According to the same source, Jamal Musavinezhad, Hamid Tohidi, Ali Samdepur and Daryush Parvana were tortured. Samdepur has got in a coma by electroshock. After 4 days of treatment in a hospital of the security service Sepah he left coma and was again imprisoned. Tohidi has become unrecognizable after the torture.
Subjected to torture is also Babaek Bagayi who from birth is disabled (he cannot bend his arms and legs).
They are accused of having links with organizations of South Azerbaijan, and they are required recognition of weapons caches. -03D06 -
