Forum of Human Rights Activists in Istanbul

In Istanbul on May 23-24 as part of the 38th Congress of the International Federation for Human Rights (FIDH), an International Forum: "The political transition processes and human rights: Experiences and Challenges" was held.

The event was attended by human rights activists from 164 FIDH member organizations and their partners, according to the Human Rights Center of Azerbaijan.

FIDH Congresses are held every three years in a new place. This time was chosen as Turkey, where after years of bloody conflict with the Kurds, began peace talks, and the country has entered a critical period, as a model for the Middle East and North Africa.

As a sign of solidarity with political prisoners and the peace process, the Forum held a demonstration at the end of which the red carnations stuck in the barrel exposed outdoors museum guns.

The Forum was attended by President Abdullah Gul, who listened to the criticism of the FIDH President Souhayr Belhassen, touching and painful topics such as political prisoners. In response, he told the participants with speech in which he did not deny the existence of problems in a number of areas of human rights. He pointed to the need to reconcile Islamic and European values ??and expressed his protest against the bloodshed in Syria and Palestine.

From Azerbaijan the Forum was attended by Director Human Rights Center of Azerbaijan (HRCA) - FIDH member organization Eldar Zeynalov, as well as journalists and human rights activists, Malahat and Ilgar Nasibovs.

May 25-27, the Congress will continue in a restricted format. He will discuss the leadership of the Federation reports, case resolution, and will elect the governing bodies of FIDH. -02D-
