France calls for the release of all political prisoners
The government of France welcomed the pardon 148 convicts in Azerbaijan, including journalists, political activists, and NGO members, on the eve of Novruz.
"We hope that this gesture will be followed by other measures the release of persons detained or sentenced conditionally because of his political activities, which will contribute to the general movement towards the rule of law," reads the information of the French Embassy in Baku sent to Turan agency.
On March 17, President of Azerbaijan pardoned 148 convicts, including 14 political prisoners. Another political prisoner, journalist Rauf Mirkadyrov was released by the court of appeal, which replaced the real term of imprisonment for a conditional punishment. -06D-

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
