French Embassy's action to fight gender violence against women
Baku/09.12.21/Turan: An action to fight the gender violence against women was held at the French Embassy in Azerbaijan on December 8.
Speaking at the event, French Ambassador to Azerbaijan Zachary Gross pointed out that the women are still faced with psychological and physical violence, economic inequality and restrictions.
"To make progress on this track, we must recognise that there are problems of gender inequality. Complaints from women who are victims of violence must be accepted by the police or the employer. They must be assured that their words will be heard, the judicial system must be effective. Statistics on the issue should be properly collected and published," said the Ambassador.
Further, he introduced two women of Azerbaijan.
Shahla Ismail, helping women in difficult situations, and Gunel Aghabeyli, helping women open doors to science.
"They also need to be proud of themselves and be confident that they will live in a more equal and inclusive society where their talents can be fully realized," Gross continued.
Note that Shahla Ismail heads the Women's Society for Rational Development. According to her, some work has been done in Azerbaijan to combat gender-based violence but this is not enough.
"At present, the situation in the regions of Azerbaijan is more difficult than in Baku. Violence against women, infringement of their rights is becoming an everyday occurrence. Discrimination against women manifests itself at different levels - individual, community, the activist said. -16D-
