Georgia and Azerbaijan Agree on South Caucasus Transport Corridor
For transportation of large freights and logistics through the South Caucasus corridor logistics it is necessary to act in unison with Azerbaijan and to conduct a dialogue with China and India on the transit. The Prime Minister of Georgia Giorgi Kvirikashvili said this to the media after completing his visit to Baku on 31 August.
According to him, he discussed many questions of the bilateral relations with the President of Azerbaijan and the Prime Minister.
‘We have very important regional economic projects of strategic importance, in particular, the Southern Gas Corridor - the South Caucasus gas pipeline expansion project, as well as the railway project Baku-Tbilisi-Kars, the implementation of which was discussed in Baku.
We also discussed the development of a unified tariff system in our logistics corridor, talking about the possibilities of attracting additional cargo from China and India,’ Kvirikashvili said.
Much attention was paid to infrastructure modernization, without which it is impossible to draw the projected volumes of transit.
On the question if the Turkish Stream negotiations between Russia and Turkey could threaten the implementation of the Trans Anatolian Pipeline, the Prime Minister said that ‘neither the Trans Anatolian nor the Trans Adriatic Pipeline is threatened, because everything is already agreed in contracts – both infrastructure construction and the volume of gas transportation.’ -02D-
