Georgia opens NATO the details of special operation on border with Russia

Permanent representative of Georgia to NATO, Grigol Mgaloblishvili, during the committee meeting Georgia-NATO in Brussels, reported on a special operation to neutralize a group of militants near the Dagestani section of the border with the Russian Federation, according to the agency "News-Georgia".

Georgian side started operation in the gorge Lopota after the penetration of a battle group of about 20 people, who took hostages 10 local residents.  They had talks on the stage by stage release of the hostages.  A group of police officers surrendered to gunmen, who offered them to surrender; then shooting began, during which three Georgian soldiers were killed. Today, the operation continued, according to the Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs, Shota Khizanishvili. Bodies of 11 militants were found, and search of another six people continues.

A source on the law enforcement bodies in Dagestan said the gunman were members of the "Tsuntin bandits" who went to Georgia. Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said he would not allow the transfer of the armed conflict in Russia to Georgia. He appealed to the North Caucasian neighbors calling on not to allow to be used. "That instability and unrest in Dagestan will remain there, and can not be transferred to us. We have a well-trained law enforcement agencies, and we have the political will to protect our civilians," said Saakashvili.—0—
