German Sterligov was detained and released after talks
Businessman German Sterligov, who was arrested at Domodedovo Airport after flying from Yerevan, was released. The lawyer said the businessman, that law enforcement only made sure that Sterligov is a Russian citizen.
According to the lawyer Arthur Ayrapetov, Sterligov was released "after a very tactful conversation with our law enforcement agencies." The reason for the detention was the query of Azerbaijan for the search of the businessman in the CIS. Airapetov said that Sterligov was released after the police were convinced of Russian citizenship of the entrepreneur.
The lawyer noted that Sterligov does not plan to leave Russia: "He will be at his farm, which has long been without a master, and will fill in the gaps." Airapetov noted that the protection of Sterligov intends to resolve the issue with Azerbaijan, so that the businessman will no longer have problems at border crossings.
Sterligov was arrested on August 31 after his arrival in Moscow from Yerevan. Immediately after his arrest Airapetov said the incident is connected with the request of Azerbaijan to search Sterligov in the CIS, but also ruled out the connection with the search of a businessman detained by Interpol.
In late July, Sterligov Azerbaijan declared internationally wanted. The authorities filed a lawsuit against the businessman under two articles: "Public appeals directed against the state" and "Illegal crossing of the state border." Prosecution of Sterligov due to the fact that in July he visited Nagorno-Karabakh, which Azerbaijan is considered to be occupied territory. As it became known on August 23 Interpol admitted persecution of Sterligov for political motives, and stopped the search of entrepreneur. -02B-
