Great Britain to help Azerbaijan in clearing the liberated territories
Baku/11.06.21/Turan: The United Kingdom will provide assistance to Azerbaijan in humanitarian demining. According to the British Embassy in Azerbaijan, this week an expert from the Explosives Control Department (CEDE) of the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom, together with specialists from the Azerbaijan Mine Clearance Agency (ANAMA), inspected the Fuzuli district.
The purpose of the visit is to assess opportunities for cooperation in eliminating the mine threat.
On June 10, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov thanked British Ambassador James Sharp for his assistance in clearing the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
According to official data, after a truce declaration of November 10, 2020, 24 Azerbaijani citizens were killed and about 100 more injured after they had been blown up by mines.
According to the same sources, total 2,439 people were affected by mines and unexploded shells in Azerbaijan due to the Karabakh conflict, including 2020. At the same time, 383 died and 2056 were injured.

According to the Turkish newspaper Sabah, officials from the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office's Anti-Smuggling Unit have detained an Azerbaijani citizen with a large shipment of gold. The detention took place near the Vadi İstanbul shopping center in the Sarıyer district, where a taxi was stopped. During the search, 70 kg of gold was found. The Azerbaijani citizen in the vehicle claimed ownership of the cargo and also stated that he was a diplomat. The investigation by the prosecutor's office is ongoing, reports Sabah newspaper. The media outlet does not disclose the name of the "diplomat," only his initials – M.G.Ş. The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declined to comment on the situation.
