Gross interference by police in action in support of Aghazadeh in Sumgait
Baku/25.09.13/Turan : In the city of Sumgayit police and people in civilian clothes intervened in the election campaign in favor of the presidential candidate , leader of the Umid (Hope) Party Igbal Aghazadeh .
The candidate's team members, local party activists and volunteers from 16.00 were on the streets, handing out leaflets and other campaign materials for Aghazadeh to citizens.
"The campaign was conducted well . People were keenly interested in our materials.
We had distributed thousands of leaflets. However, about 20.00 people in civilian clothes from the city's Executive Power grossly interfered , offending the party activists," the head of the press service of the party Elman Abbasov, who was also subjected to abuse, told Turan.
According to him, people in civilian clothes seized all the campaign materials and, using brute force, detained the party activists Elnur Aliyev, Namik Aliyev, Baghir Huseynbeyli, Ruslan Izzetli, and Gonul Guliyeva. They were taken to a high ranking police officer standing nearby.
After some time, the detainees were released , but the campaign materials were not returned .
