Haji Abdul wishes success to Rustam Ibrahimbayov
Abdul Abdulaliyev (known as Haji Abdul), the leader of the Public Union of Popular Unity for Motherland, welcomed the nomination of Rustam Ibrahimbayov for presidency.
"There are a lot of people in the National Council who love their country. Rustam Ibrahimbayov is the great art man Azerbaijan. I wish him every success in politics," said Abdulaliyev at today's event on the signing of a cooperation agreement between his organization, the Alliance of Progress (unit ATA, director of Genghis Damiroglu), and the NGO "Azeri" (the head is Khoshgedam Cabrailoglu.)
The agreement is aimed at increasing civic participation of the population in the presidential election, said its leaders.
With regard to support a particular candidate in an election, Abdulaliyev said that the position would be explained after all the applicants for the presidency will be known.
Abdulaliyev also said that negotiations on joining this agreement, and other structures, without specifying which ones.
In the early 1990s Abdulaliyev was the leader of a religious society "Tovba" ("Repentance"). He was an active supporter of the last communist leader and first president of Azerbaijan, Ayaz Mutalibov. During the Popular Front government (1992-93) Abdulaliyev was arrested. After Heydar Aliyev came to power, he was released from prison.
Since 2001 Abdulaliyev is a head of the religious community of the mosque "Imam Hussein."

On November 26, the Baku Court of Appeals heard a complaint regarding the extension of the detention of former diplomat Emin Ibrahimov. During the hearing, the investigator requested that the complaint be rejected, while Ibrahimov's lawyer, Aghil Laidj, pointed out the lack of grounds for keeping Ibrahimov in custody.

Arrested economist Fazil Gasimov has reportedly faced pressure after protesting the interruption of a phone call with his family on November 16. "The phone call was cut off, and Fazil demanded that the connection be restored. Then, Jalal Alizadeh, a detention center officer, along with his colleagues, forcibly removed Fazil from the phone room in the medical unit of the facility, tearing his jacket and dragging him across the floor before throwing him into a cell.
