Horse Riders Preparing for Parade in Honor of Liberation of Baku
Baku / 06.09.18 / Turan: On September 15, a military parade of the Azerbaijani army will be held in the center of Baku in Azadlig Square in honor of the 100th anniversary of the liberation of Baku from the Dashnak (Armenian) and Bolshevik-Socialist-Revolutionary forces of the Baku Council of People's Commissars. These forces committed mass pogroms of the indigenous Muslim population in Baku and other regions of Azerbaijan.
On September 15, 1918, the Caucasian Army headed by the Turkish General Nuru Pasha, together with the Azerbaijani National Army, during the fierce fighting, drove out the Armenian-Russian military units from the city, stopping the extermination of Muslims.
The rehearsal of the parade took place on September 5 in Baku and on the outskirts of the capital. The main participants of the parade are the horse units of the Border Service of Azerbaijan, which will march along Azadlig Square in the form of Turkish and Azerbaijani military hundred years ago. The military orchestra of the Ministry of Defense will also take part in the parade.
The Turkish General Nuru Pasha is also known as the organizer and commander of the anti-Soviet armed movement in Central Asia, nicknamed Basmachism by Soviet propaganda. In Central Asia, the name of Nuru Pasha is highly honored.
In Azerbaijan society, the theme of the need to erect a monument to the outstanding Turkish commander is raised from time to time. In June 2012, a Nuru Pasha sculpture was installed on the territory of the Turkish Embassy in Baku. -0-
